Thanks to the contributions of everyone involved in the projects below, the qualifications and skills standards for caring for some of our most rare and endangered animals, as well as the animals in our homes and communities have been updated to meet industry needs.
The qualifications and skills standards revised and developed as part of the Exhibited Animal Care and Marine Wildlife Project and Pet Care and Animal Training Project have been endorsed by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) and State and Territory Ministers.
They are now published on training.gov.au and available for use by registered training organisations (RTOs). See the project pages below for more information.
Exhibited Animal Care and Marine Wildlife Project
The expertise to care for animals in exhibited environments and to respond to incidents involving marine wildlife have been captured as part of this project.
The updated documents better reflect current industry practices, terminology and skills, capturing the unique job tasks involved in caring for animals of different sizes and types and responding to marine wildlife events.

Pet Care & Animal Training Skills Standards Being Finalised
Qualifications and skills standards for roles across the pet care and animal training industry have been reviewed and restructured in response to industry feedback.
Updated qualifications, skill sets and units have been designed to support industry as it adapts to demand for services and products to care for Australian pets and assistance animals. This includes the skills required for a range of job roles, across areas such as pet grooming, animal health care, animal training, assistance animals, companion and therapy animals, and regulation.
