As part of their commitment to improve Australia’s skills systems, the Australian Government has announced an additional $149.2 million to establish and support a new industry engagement model in the vocational education and training (VET) system.
The new model is a positive step towards an even better national VET system, allowing industry to have a bigger voice. ‘Industry clusters’ will be established to give industry a greater role in addressing strategic workforce challenges for their sectors; support improvements to training and assessment quality; and lead qualifications development.
The new system is expected to be established in 2022 and fully operational by the start of 2023. To keep up-to-date on the progress, visit skillsreform.gov.au.
Department Reports Back on Industry Feedback to Date
The Australian Government have been inviting feedback from industry and other stakeholders on the ways VET can be improved. They have published two reports about what they have learned from stakeholders so far, as part of recent consultations.
Qualifications Design Survey
This survey asked for feedback on the design, development, and delivery of national training products. It ran from December 2020 to February 2021. Read the findings here.
Consultations About Better Industry Engagement in VET
Between November 2020 and April 2021, stakeholders were consulted through surveys, online workshops and webinars, meetings and a discussion paper for Improving industry engagement and reforming qualifications in Vocational Education and Training. Read a summary of findings from these consultations here.
Skills Impact made a submission to the discussion paper, based on our consultations with industry and registered training organisations (RTOs) over the past few years. Click here to read Skills Impact’s submission.
