The additional units of competency included in the below projects have been updated based on your feedback. The final drafts are now available for comment and validation. These units relate to job tasks in the broader timber manufactured products and sawmilling and processing industry sectors.
Those with experience in these sectors are encouraged to participate in the validation process, so that the units are accurate to industry skills needs and job roles.
Timber Truss and Frame Estimating and Design Project
Seven additional units have been updated based on industry feedback and are available for validation. They cover the following skills:
- Tally material
- Process orders and dispatch products
- Cut materials to shape using a saw
- Monitor stock control procedures
- Build and maintain timber stacks
- Assemble materials using nail plates
- Calculate production cost
Originally it was communicated that 11 additional units were available for feedback. However, four have since been deferred, to be reviewed as part of projects in the future.

Qualifications, Skill Sets and Units Moving to Finalisation
Thank you to those who provided feedback on the final draft qualifications, skill sets and units related to timber truss and frame design and manufacture. Your comments are being considered to update the final drafts, which will shortly move into the finalisation stage.
Timber trusses and frames are used to build the majority of Australian homes and many other buildings, and as such are integral to the Australian economy and its people. Through a process of industry consultation, the technical skills required for both the design and manufacture of timber trusses and frames have been captured in draft qualifications, skill sets and units.
Timber Merchandising Project
Three additional units have been updated based on industry feedback and are now available for validation. They cover the following skills:
- Assemble products
- Cut materials with a hand-held chainsaw
- Cut panels
