Draft AHC Qualifications and Skills Standards Available for Comment Soon

Draft qualifications and skills standards for jobs roles across pig, poultry and organic farming, as well as composting, permaculture, and water trading will be available for viewing and comment in the coming months.

We encourage your input. Follow the links below for further details.

Permaculture, Organic Production & Composting Projects

An increasing number of farmers are adopting production systems based around principles of permaculture, organic farming and composting, helping to meet consumer demand for produce grown using sustainable practices.

These practices draw on new science as well as traditional methods, including those used by Indigenous cultures around the world.

Industry experts are being consulted to define the job skills associated with permaculture, organic farming and composting, supporting the future training and development of the workforce.

The drafts are scheduled to be available on the project webpage in January-February 2022.

Pig & Poultry Project

Skills in animal welfare, safety and sustainability are essential for pig and poultry farmers to raise and care for their animals used for eggs and meat. It is important that industry has access to a skilled workforce to keep up with demand for eggs, chicken meat and pork, which are popular products in Australia.

Consultation is taking place with industry experts to update the units of competency for pig and poultry farming, so that they better reflect current industry practices or legislation.

The drafts are scheduled to be available on the project webpage in January-February 2022.

Water Allocation & Entitlement Skills Project

From its informal beginnings around 20 years ago, water trading in Australia has evolved into a multifaceted market of entitlements and allocations. Given how important water resources are to farmers, it is vital that they are equipped with the skills to navigate buying, selling and managing water.

Industry experts are contributing to the development of national skills standards to support farmers, irrigators and water traders develop the skills necessary to operate in Australia’s various water markets.

The drafts are scheduled to be available on the project webpage in mid-December 2021.

Respect for Country Job Skills Project

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures have developed skills and knowledge for respecting Country over thousands of years. Some of these skills are described in nationally endorsed qualifications, skill sets and units that are used to equip leaners for jobs in ecosystem management, conservation, environmental and cultural analysis, and ranger occupations, as well as roles preparing regulatory, government or legislative reports.

We are seeking to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about any improvements that can be made to these qualifications and stills standards.

The project team of Michelle Ingley-Smith and Cathy Beven are here to discuss the current qualifications, skill sets and units and whether they can better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners and communities.

Draft skills standards developed will be made available on the project page for viewing and comment.
