Our Role Establishing Skills Insight JSC

Skills Impact held a Skills Service Organisation (SSO) role between 2016 and 2022. In 2023 we established one of ten Job and Skills Councils (JSCs), after a submission to move into the role was backed by over 200 letters of support from a broad range of industry stakeholders. This new JSC, Skills Insight, has a broader scope to deliver outcomes that support a responsive VET system and a skilled and resilient national workforce. The industry coverage of Skills Insight is similar to our past coverage as a Skills Service Organisation.

Draft Horse Care Qualifications & Skills Standards Being Finalised

Thanks to contributions made by industry experts throughout this project, the skills standards for a range of horse care professions have been captured in updated qualifications, skill sets and units of competency.

The qualifications, skill sets and units have been submitted to Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for consideration and endorsement, after which they will be forwarded to State and Territory Ministers. Once endorsed, the qualifications, skill sets and units will be published on the national register (training.gov.au).

This project has focussed on strengthening safety skills across all environments in which people interact with horses and on supporting flexibility of delivery and career pathways. A range of individuals are involved in caring for horses, each requiring unique expertise and playing an important role in promoting and maintaining the welfare of horses. Different skills are required to fit saddles, advise on nutrition and carry out the day to day care of horses.
