Qualifications and skills standards have been reviewed and updated as part of the two projects below and are now available for your feedback.
Responding and Assisting in Bushfires Project
It is important that forestry operators, arborists and other service providers are equipped with skills in communication and hazard awareness, so that they can effectively assist in work to minimise the risk of bushfires and clean up after them.
Draft units that describe the skills required for this work have been reviewed and developed so that those working in the forestry industry can maintain the appropriate skills. The draft documents are now available for review and comment.

Sawmilling and Timber Processing Project
As the sawmilling sawmilling and timber processing industry develops environmentally sustainable solutions for building construction, the skills needs of the workforce are changing. With workplaces investing in state-of-the-art equipment to produce innovative products, including cross laminated timber (CLT) and glue laminated timber (GLT), updated technical skills are required.
Qualifications and skills standards have been updated and are now available for feedback. Input from those with experience in the industry is needed so that the draft documents reflect the skills to optimise output, work with new processes, perform quality control, and meet chain of custody requirements, as well as to operate and monitor automated wood processing technologies and continuous drying kilns.
